Shilpa Shetty’s husband Raj Kundra arrested in connection with ‘porn film’ racket

The crime branch of Mumbai Police have arrested Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty’s husband Raj Kundra in connection with a case registered against him for creation of pornographic films and publishing them through some apps.

Sources reveal, key piece of evidence in Raj Kundra arrest are Whatsapp chats between Kundra and his partners with relation to porn content. Raj wa produced before the Esplanade Court on Tuesday afternoon.

“The crime branch registered a case in February about the creation of pornography films and publishing them through some apps. After investigation, we have arrested Raj Kundra in the case as he appears to be the key conspirator of this. We have sufficient evidence regarding the case,” stated the press release issued by Mumbai Police.

Why Raj Kundra has been arrested?

On February 4 of this year, the Mumbai police said they had arrested five people for allegedly forcing women into porn movies.

They would promise these aspiring actresses, who came to Mumbai from various parts of the country, roles in web series. However, on the day of the shoot, they would change the script and threaten the women to expose themselves. If the women refused, they were asked to foot the bill for the shooting preparations.

Once the movies were shot, the accused made them available on mobile apps, offering subscriptions on the lines of mainstream OTT platforms. They would then put up advertisements on social media platforms. One such UK production house, found to be uploading such content, came under the police scanner and its executive Umesk Kamat was arrested. An officer said that it was Kundra’s alleged connection to Kamat and the company that uploaded such pornographic content that landed him in trouble. The company was allegedly set up by Mr Kundra and his brother, and registered in the UK so it could evade Indian cyber-laws. Laws against publishing and transmitting “obscene material” are tough in the country, though watching pornography in private is legal.

In 2015, Kundra was banned for life from all cricket-related activities following an investigation into match-fixing during his stint as the co-owner with Shilpa Shetty of the Rajasthan Royals.
