Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi, who is sharing screen space with Aamir Khan in Lal Singh Chaddha, decides to walk out from the biopic of Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan

Hailing from no film background, Vijay Sethupathi started his career as a background artist. With intelligent acting, and nuanced performances, he grabbed millions of fans; not only in Kollywood, but he also holds an immense following in entire south India. Now, he is also making Bollywood debut in Aamir Khan’s forthcoming outing, Lal Singh Chaddha.

For a week, Sethupathi has been facing severe backlash for opting for Srilankan’s Cricketer biopic – 800. In response to that, the Sri Lankan spinner issued a statement that said, “he doesn’t ’t want to be reason to derail the career of a great artist like Vijay Sethupathi.”

“He should not suffer any unnecessary obstacles in his career as an artist in the future. Therefore, I request him to move away,” he said.

Earlier of the month, when the makers of the film released the motion picture of the film, featuring Vijay Sethupathi in Muralitharan avatar, cinephiles delighted; the actor too took Twitter to express his excitement.

On the other side, social media flooded with hatred against the actor. Politicians, industry people, and many Tamil civilians asked Sethupathi to drop the film. Muralitharan, whose past comments, in 2009, perceived as supporting the Rajapaka government, which waged civil war leading deaths of thousands of innocent Tamil people. To negate the criticism, Muralitharan clarified that his statements were perceived wrong, saying, ‘i did not support the killings of innocent people, and I would not do it.’

The project is not shelved out completely. Makers looking for a new face. Some people planning to create new controversy – probably, this is how they survive. Anyway, it is shameful to curb the passion of one of the finest performers of India.
